Fishing at Moose Point Lodge
The North Maine Woods, encompassing 3.5 million acres of woodland, is littered with lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, awaiting anglers of all kinds.
The fishery here focuses on wild brook trout and landlocked salmon and boasts active fisheries throughout the entire season. Maine has the largest wild brook trout population in the US, and Moose Point Lodge is perfectly situated to take advantage of that fishery.
We offer guided fishing trips, as well as lodging for those not needing a guide. Meal plans are available to all parties, and having food provided takes the stress out of your trip, so you can focus on fishing and relaxing! All types of fishing are available including trolling, spin fishing, fly fishing, and yes, even worm dunking in certain locations, if that’s your pleasure. Start with breakfast and coffee on the lakeshore, fish at your leisure, and finish up the day with great food, the music of the loons, and a campfire under the stars. Rinse and repeat…
Fish From Camp
Fish River Lake is the headwater of the Fish River chain of lakes, one of the crown jewels of the Maine cold water fishery. Enjoy fantastic spring trolling for brook trout and salmon, right from our dock. We offer a boat launch for clients, and encourage you to bring your own watercraft. Lake fishing is fastest from Mid-May to Mid-June, but trout and salmon can be caught all summer for those willing to fish deeper in the lake. With a max depth of around 46’ and a good smelt population, the lake produces impressive numbers of fish, with most in the 12” – 22” range. Spoons and flies are popular, but the lake is open to live bait as well. The three streams which feed Fish Lake all hold excellent populations of trout, and offer a great opportunity for small-water fishing. The outlet of the lake provides excellent habitat for young salmon and trout, and can offer fine fishing as well. From the outlet, Fish River Falls can be accessed, and a hiking trail below offers access to the Fish River, which offers great fishing if you hit the season right.
Remote Trout Ponds
If small ponds are your thing, you are in the right place. Depending on your timeline and preferences, there are numerous ponds within a short drive of camp, many more if you are open to a longer drive, and practically endless opportunities if you would like to take a float plane ride to a farther location. Hundreds of ponds boasting trophy size wild fish are on the menu. If casting dry flies to an evening hatch of chunky trout is your goal, there is no better place in the lower 48 than the North Maine Woods.
River Fishing
There are several watersheds within reach of Moose Point Lodge which offer trout and salmon fishing in larger moving water. Most of these opportunities do require a drive of 1-2 hours, or a quick float plane ride, but they can be worth the extra effort! Rising fish in moving water can provide some of the absolute best fishing. Regardless of whether you prefer to fly fish or use spinning gear, we have great options. Let the sound of the river carry away the weight of the world, and just soak in the beauty.
Stream Fishing
For the die-hard, old school anglers who love the tight quarters and intimacy of fishing alder choked streams and pocket water, let the games begin. Small stream fishing is an art form- not for everyone- and if it’s what you like, we have it! Small cold streams holding large numbers of small but feisty brook trout are everywhere in our region, and we can get you pointed in the direction of some of the best. Bring your waders and bug spray, and get ready for some backwoods adventure, where you never know what’s in the next pool, or around the next bend. If you’re lucky, and so inclined, there may even be some crispy fried trout in store at the end of your day.
